HC Deb 23 September 1931 vol 256 cc1642-3
43. Mr. ROWSON

asked the President of the Board of Education what is the total amount paid annually by teachers to the superannuation fund; what amount is paid annually in pensions from the fund; and what is the balance in hand in the fund accumulated since 1925?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of EDUCATION (Sir Kingsley Wood)

The pension contributions paid by teachers in the year 1930–31 amounted to £2,624,134, and the total amount paid by the Board in respect of pensions to teachers in the same year was £5,330,477. There is no accumulating superannuation fund in connection with teachers' pensions, the payments being made out of money voted annually for the Board of Education and the teachers' contributions being appropriated in aid thereof. A note on the subject appears on page 6 of the Estimates.
