§ 2. Mr. WELLOCKasked the Secretary of State for India if he is in a position to say what steps the Government of India are taking, or propose to take, in regard to carrying out the recommendations of the Whitley Commission?
§ Sir S. HOAREI have asked the Government of India for a report which I am now awaiting.
§ Mr. WELLOCKIn view of the very large number of recommendations in the report, will the right hon. Gentleman consider suggesting to the Government of India the allocation of a highly-placed civil servant to deal with these recommendations?
§ Sir S. HOAREI must first see the comments of the Government of India on the report. I do not think the time has yet come to suggest an additional Government servant for that purpose.
§ Mr. WELLOCKI do not mean an additional civil servant, but the allocation of a member of the existing Civil Service for this purpose. Will the right hon. Gentleman consider that suggestion?
§ Sir S. HOAREAs I say, I must first see the report of the Government of India on the subject.
