HC Deb 16 September 1931 vol 256 c837
36. Mr. T. SMITH

asked the Secretary for Mines whether it is intended to proceed with the safety conferences initiated by his predecessor?

Mr. FOOT

It is certainly my intention to continue the general policy of fostering in all sections of the mining industry discussion and the spread of knowledge on the many problems of safety. Already four conferences have been held at Newcastle-on-Tyne, Glasgow, Sheffield and Cardiff. It is my desire that conferences on similar lines shall be held in the four other inspection divisions and arrangements will be made accordingly as soon as conditions make this possible.
