HC Deb 14 September 1931 vol 256 c500
27. Commander BELLAIRS

asked the President of the Board of Trade what is the sack capacity per hour of the flour mills now operating in the United Kingdom; and what was the similar figure in 1913 or some other pre-War date for which the figure is available?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE (Major Gwilym Lloyd George)

The only definite information available relates to April, 1921, when it was ascertained that the capacity of flour mills in Great Britain and Ireland was 6,164 sacks per hour. Since that time flour mills with an aggregate capacity of 891 sacks per hour are known to have been closed, but no information is available regarding any possible changes in the capacity of other mills.
