HC Deb 14 September 1931 vol 256 c514
45. Major BRAITHWAITE

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been drawn to the present condition of arable farming; and if the Government intends to make any contribution to save the situation?

The PRIME MINISTER

I am well aware of the difficulties which arable farmers in this country are facing, but I can hold out no immediate hope of the legislation which would be a necessary precedent to any scheme of further assistance.

Major BRAITHWAITE

May I ask whether, if the Government stays in long enough, they will consider proposals in this connection, because the economic position of farming will have a great deal to do with any economy proposals?

The PRIME MINISTER

That is fully recognised.
