HC Deb 10 September 1931 vol 256 c271
7. Miss WILKINSON

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is now in a position to make a statement with regard to the case of Mrs. Cunningham, of Middlesbrough; and whether it is his intention to review the case with a view to remission of the sentence?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir Herbert Samuel)

I had instituted inquiry in this case, and, after consulting the stipendiary magistrate who passed the sentence, I have felt justified in authorising Mrs. Cunningham's discharge from prison this morning and advising the remission of the remainder of the sentence.
