§ Sir J. GILMOURI am informed by the Lee Conservancy Catchment Board that the River Lee rarely overflows at Stamford Hill, Tottenham, but that it does overflow at times of heavy flood lower down at Clapton. The weir at Lee Bridge has, I understand, been enlarged with the object of preventing this flooding. The question of further remedial measures is a matter for the catchment board.
§ Mr. MESSERWill the right hon. Gentleman be good enough to make inquiries of the local authority for the purpose of discovering the number of deaths that have resulted from the deplorable state of the river banks at this spot; and will he send a member of the staff of the Ministry to investigate, as the statement in the answer does not appear to be in accordance with the facts?
