HC Deb 30 November 1931 vol 260 cc735-6
11. Sir WILLIAM DAVISON

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has now received a reply from the representative of the Russian Soviet Government as to the reply of that Government to the representations made by the late Foreign Secretary in July last that it was now necessary for a concrete offer to be made by the Soviet Government for the settlement of the debts and claims of British nationals, a settlement of this matter being one of the conditions for the resumption of diplomatic relations between this country and Soviet Russia?

Sir J. SIMON

I am conscious of the urgency of this question, and I hope to be in a position to make a statement shortly.

Mr. SMITHERS

Will this Government take stronger measures than the last to deal with the matter?
