HC Deb 30 November 1931 vol 260 c738
13. Captain PETER MACDONALD

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether any further progress has been made during the past six months with regard to the reduction of visa fees to foreign tourists visiting Great Britain; and whether he will consider the advisability of abolishing visa fees altogether with a view to increasing the number of such tourists?

Sir J. SIMON

The late Government announced nine months ago that it was not at that time possible, for financial reasons, to adopt a general abolition, or further reduction, of visa fees, and the present financial situation makes it, I regret to say, necessary to adhere to that decision at present.

Mr. COCKS

Is it not the policy of the Government to keep the foreigner out?
