HC Deb 30 November 1931 vol 260 c740
20. Captain STRICKLAND

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether it is within his knowledge that the British Legation cars at Peking and other places in China are not of British manufacture; and whether he will take steps to ensure that, so far as possible, official cars, both in China and elsewhere, shall be of British manufacture?

Sir J. SIMON

The car for the Legation at Peking was purchased at a time when no service facilities were available for British cars. The only other official car in China, which is at Nanking, is of British make. It has always been the policy to supply British cars for all posts whenever possible, and this policy will be rigidly adhered to.

Mr. HANNON

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether, within his knowledge, there is any other Embassy or Legation where foreign cars are now employed?
