§ 90. Mr. SIMMONDSasked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that in Birmingham and other towns tenants who are themselves in many cases protected by the Rent Restrictions Acts are sub-letting their rooms in a nominally furnished condition at rents aggregating four and five times the controlled rent; and whether he will take appropriate steps by legislation or otherwise to prevent the continuance of this abuse?
Sir H. YOUNGSuch cases are referred to in the Report of the Inter-Departmental Committee on the Rent Restrictions Acts, which was recently issued. I can only repeat, what I have stated in answer to other questions relating to possible amendments of the Acts, that the Government will consider the matter in the light of the report.
