HC Deb 26 November 1931 vol 260 cc519-20
117. Mr. PATRICK

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he can state approximately the extra cost, on the basis of current prices, of the proposal to supply His Majesty's Forces in the United Kingdom with home-grown meat only; and whether any decision on this proposal will be reached by the Government in the near future?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I am advised that, on the basis of current prices, the additional cost of supplying the Army, Air Force and Navy at home stations, with home-killed meat instead of with imported frozen meat for seven days a week would be £575,000 over a period of 12 months. As regards the second part of the question, I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer given by the Prime Minister on the 16th instant to the question put by my hon. Friend the Member for Renfrew West (Mr. Wedderburn).
