HC Deb 26 November 1931 vol 260 cc490-1
37. Lieut.-Colonel Sir VIVIAN HENDERSON

asked the Home Secretary whether he will set up a committee to consider what amendments may be necessary in the law relating to appeals from courts of summary jurisdiction?

Sir H. SAMUEL

I presume that the hon. Member has in mind the question of providing free legal aid to appellants from the decisions of courts of summary jurisdiction. The matter is one of importance, but the Government cannot envisage at the present time additional expenditure from public funds for this purpose.
