HC Deb 24 November 1931 vol 260 cc211-2
64. Mr. LAMBERT

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much of the credits granted to the Bank of England for approximately £50,000,000 by the Bank of France and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York has been repaid; and whether any portion of the credits for £80,000,000 granted to the Treasury has been repaid?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

As regards the first part of the question, I can add nothing to the statement by the Bank of England published on the 31st October, of which I have already sent a copy to the right hon. Member. The answer to the last part of the question is in the negative.

Mr. LAMBERT

Is my right hon. Friend aware that I cannot understand the statement which he sent to me from the Bank of England; and will he kindly say how much of this £30,900,000 has been repaid? It is a very simple matter.

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I was not aware that my right hon. Friend could not understand the statement. If he will be good enough to come and see me, I will endeavour to make everything clear to him.
