asked (1) the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether he can make a statement on the subject of the protest made to the French Government in connection with their intention to impose discriminatory duties on British coal; and whether he will keep the House informed of the progress of the negotiations;

(2) the President of the Board of Trade whether a protest has been made to the French Government in connection with their alleged intention to impose discriminatory duties on British coal; and whether he will keep the House informed of the progress of the negotiations?

Representations are being made by His Majesty's Government to the French Government in the matter of the recent discriminatory increases in the French import duties.
