HC Deb 23 November 1931 vol 260 c42
69. Mr. HICKS

(for Mr. THORNE) asked the First Lord of the Admiralty the total value of the kits of the 24 naval ratings recently discharged; what portion of the amount was due to the men; and if he will state the amount allowed to each man from Navy funds for the provision of civilian clothes?

Sir B. EYRES MONSELL

The total value of the regulation kits of these men, if all the articles were new, would be about £10 per head. The kits actually taken away by the men were not new and the value cannot be stated precisely. The 21 naval ratings received 13s. each plain clothes gratuity and two of the three Royal Marines 10s. each, the third being given a suit of plain clothes in lieu, at his own request.
