HC Deb 23 November 1931 vol 260 c28
30. Captain ERSKINE-BOLST

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether he will assist those hotel organisations which are endeavouring to popularise British holiday resorts as against foreign holiday resorts, by suggesting to provincial chambers of commerce and chambers of trade throughout Great Britain that they should make an inspection in their respective localities with a view to helping the hotel trade generally?

Major COLVILLE

I am anxious to render any assistance I can to popularise British holiday resorts and to improve the hotel accommodation, but I am not prepared, at this stage, to agree that the suggestion made by my hon. and gallant Friend is likely to be the most efficacious method. I am in constant touch with the Travel Association and with the hotel associations on the matter.

Mr. BRACKEN

Will the hon. Gentleman use his influence with the Home Secretary to secure the abolition of the Defence of the Realm Regulations, which would be one of the best possible ways of doing this?
