§ 11. Mr. HURDasked the Minister of Labour if, in view of the increase of unemployment in many agricultural districts, he will consider the necessity of framing a separate scheme of unemployment insurance for agricultural workers, under which the weekly payments will be such as these workers can afford?
§ Sir H. BETTERTONThis is one of the matters before the Royal Commission on Unemployment Insurance, and I am bound to await their report.
§ Mr. HURDHas the fact been brought to the right hon. Gentleman's notice that in many of the agricultural areas this is becoming a really acute question; and will he take means to expedite the consideration of the matter by this body?
§ Sir H. BETTERTONI am aware that this matter is arousing interest in the agricultural districts. With regard to the expediting of the report, I hope as much as anybody else that we will get it soon. When that will be I cannot say, but I hope by about the end of next month.
