HC Deb 18 November 1931 vol 259 c845
32. Mr. HALL-CAINE

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs the nature of the considerations which make it impracticable to hold any Imperial Economic Conference before July next; and whether this decision will be affected by the desire expressed by Dominion statesmen that such a conference should be held at the earliest possible moment?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for DOMINION AFFAIRS (Mr. Malcolm Mac Donald)

I would refer the hon. Member to the replies which my right hon. Friend gave to supplementary questions on this subject addressed to him by the hon. Members for North Newcastle (Sir N. Grattan-Doyle) and Bournemouth (Sir H. Croft) on 12th instant. The hon. Member will appreciate that it is essential that the date should be one which makes it possible for all the Governments concerned to be represented.

Mr. LESLIE BOYCE

Will the hon. Gentleman say which of the Dominions would find it inconvenient to attend the Ottawa Conference before next July, as the opinion is universally held in the Dominions that this important conference is being delayed, to enable his right hon. Friend, the Secretary of State for the Dominions, to make a "buckshee" trip throughout the Empire?
