HC Deb 16 November 1931 vol 259 cc477-8
6. Mr. DAGGAR

asked the Secretary of State for India whether his attention has been called to the efforts made by a number of Untouchables to worship in the temples of their faith in India; whether he is aware that these efforts were repulsed by high-caste Hindus; and if he can state why it was that only Untouchables were arrested?

Sir S. HOARE

I presume that the hon. Member is referring to recent events at Nasik, accounts of which have appeared in the Press. I have no official information of these incidents, but I have no doubt that the persons arrested had disobeyed orders lawfully issued to them in the interests of public peace, and there is no reason to suppose that any partiality was shown in making the arrests.
