HC Deb 12 November 1931 vol 259 c251
45. Mr. BUCHANAN

asked the Prime Minister if he is aware that since the unemployment benefit has been reduced in amount the number of persons proceeded against in the courts for rent arrears has increased considerably and that this number, with the coming winter, will further increase; and if he intends to take action to prevent people who are unemployed from being evicted from their homes or their goods sold off?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Ramsay MacDonald)

I am not aware of this. If the hon. Member will give me the facts on which he bases his question, I will have the matter considered by the appropriate Department.

Mr. LOGAN

Will the right hon. Gentleman also consider the advisability of making arrangements with public assistance committees to see that adequate relief can be given if such special cases should arise?

The PRIME MINISTER

Obviously, that is a question which should be put to the proper Department.
