§ The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for DOMINION AFFAIRS (Mr. Lunn)In reply to recent questions regarding the proposals which have been made by the Government of Southern Rhodesia for a conference on the subject of the amalgamation of Southern and Northern Rhodesia, the Government have indicated that they had the whole subject under consideration and that it was their desire, to proceed in a manner which would express the sentiments of the House of Commons as a whole. With this object in view, it has been decided to invite members of the two Opposition parties, as a preliminary step, to discuss with my right hon. Friend and my Noble Friend the Secretary of State for the Colonies how best the matter can be approached on a basis acceptable to all parties, and a meeting is likely to be arranged soon after Whitsun.
