HC Deb 21 May 1931 vol 252 c2171
5. Mr. HALL-CAINE

asked the Minister of Labour if she can state the reason for the delay in the sanctioning of schemes for grant by the Unemployment Grants Committee that have been submitted by the Liverpool Corporation since 1st January, 1931, for the relief of unemployment?

Miss BONDFIELD

I am not aware that there has been any delay other than that necessary to secure the requisite technical information and for its adequate consideration. Of the eight schemes submitted since 1st January one has been approved, two have been refused and five are under consideration.

Mr. HALL-CAINE

Will the right hon. Lady urge upon the Unemployment Grants Committee either to reject or approve the five schemes which now remain as there is a great deal of unemployment in this area?

Miss BONDFIELD

I should like to tell the hon. Member that there is no delay on the part of the Unemployment Grants Committee.
