HC Deb 20 May 1931 vol 252 c1978
4. Mr. MANDER

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what steps he is taking to carry out the recommendation of the Conference for the Codification of International Law at The Hague in 1930 that nations should consider how far the principle of the equality of the sexes might be applied?

Mr. DALTON

The Hague Conference recommended that the various States should study the question of introducing into their laws the principle of the equality of the sexes in matters of nationality. The attitude of His Majesty's Government is one of sympathy with this principle, and, as my right hon. Friend stated in reply to a question by the hon. Member on the 11th of February last, the question has been placed on the agenda of the next Assembly of the League of Nations. I would add that the Foreign Office would not be primarily responsible for any future legislation on this subject.
