HC Deb 20 May 1931 vol 252 c1973
59. Mr. LOVAT-FRASER

asked the Home Secretary if he will consider the desirability of creating a national detective department whose duty it shall be to investigate immediately crimes taking place in any part of the Kingdom which require special ability and experience?

Mr. SHORT

My right hon. Friend is still of the opinion that there is no sufficient ground for considering a radical change of this kind.

Mr. LOVAT-FRASER

Is the hon. Gentleman not aware that there is considerable dissatisfaction with the loose way in which crime is investigated by the provincial police—largely through inexperience?

Mr. SHORT

I am not aware of the dissatisfaction, and I do not agree that there are any loose methods.
