HC Deb 20 May 1931 vol 252 cc1968-9
49. Sir WALTER PRESTON

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that the Board of Trade was invited by 20 per cent. of the shareholders of the British Cement Products, Limited, to undertake an investigation of the company's affairs, and that on 29th April, 1930, he promised an investigation; and, seeing that the Board of Trade has not held such an investigation, will he now state what action he proposes to take in the matter?

Mr. W. R. SMITH

The Board were prepared to appoint an inspector to investigate the affairs of the company, but the applicants did not proceed with the application after being informed that the Board could not give an undertaking in advance in regard to the payment of the costs of the investigation. I may add that an order for the compulsory winding-up of the company was made by the court on 11th May and the affairs of the company will consequently be investigated by the Official Receiver.
