§ 33. Mr. DAYasked the Minister of Transport whether any grants have been made from the Road Fund towards the cost of maintenance of the automatic traffic signals either in the Metropolitan area or the provinces; and will he give particulars?
§ Mr. HERBERT MORRISONThe total number of installations of traffic control by automatic coloured light signals approved up to the 30th April, 1931, for the purpose of maintenance grants is 333. Contributions from the Road Fund towards the maintenance cost of approved signals are payable at the end of each financial year upon submission and approval of claims in respect of the actual expenditure incurred in that year. Up to the present the claims of two authorities for the year 1930–31 have been submitted and are receiving consideration.

§ Mr. MORRISONYes, representations have been made to the local authorities, making clear the facilities given by the Ministry, and the divisional road engineers are co-operating with the local authorities.
