HC Deb 19 May 1931 vol 252 cc1774-5
61. Sir H. CAYZER

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty the country of origin of the bulk of the tobacco supplied to the Navy; and whether any Empire-grown tobacco is supplied?

Mr. AMMON

The bulk of the tobacco purchased for the Navy is of American origin, but offers of Empire tobacco also are invited and purchases of the latter have been included when quality and price have been satisfactory. In recent years it has been found possible to increase substantially the quantity of Empire tobacco bought.
