HC Deb 19 May 1931 vol 252 c1780
9. Rear - Admiral BEAMISH

(for Colonel BURTON) asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is now in a position to state what action, if any, he proposes to take regarding the Plimsoll line?

Mr. W. GRAHAM

A Bill was recently introduced in another place which contains provisions for amending the law as to load line so as to enable effect to be given to the International Load Line Convention, 1930.

Rear-Admiral BEAMISH

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether these conventions must be ratified by a particular date; do the Government expect that they will be able to ratify them by that date; and what is the date?

Mr. GRAHAM

I cannot recall the date off-hand. There is, of course, a specific date when the conventions come up for ratification, and it is in order, if possible, to be ready by that date that the two separate conventions have been put in one Bill in another place, and we hope to make some progress now.
