HC Deb 14 May 1931 vol 252 c1364
68. Mr. G. MACDONALD

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the total number of Income Tax payers in the United Kingdom during the year ended 31st March, 1921, and also during the latest financial year for which figures are available?

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

My hon. Friend will find estimates for each year since 1920–21 up to the latest available year in Table 48 of the recently published 73rd Annual Report of the Commissioners of Inland Revenue (Command Paper 3802).

70. Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the amounts of Income Tax actually collected in the latest financial year for which statistics are available for the City of London; for the commissioners' areas in Great Britain in which collectors are appointed by the Inland Revenue Department; and for the other commissioners' areas in Great Britain, respectively?

Mr. PETHICK - LAWRENCE

The accounting arrangements of the Income Tax do not apportion the actual receipt of the tax on the lines suggested by the right hon. Member. Inquiry is, however, being made, and, if the right hon. Gentleman will renew his question after Whitsun, I hope to be in a position to give him approximate figures.
