HC Deb 14 May 1931 vol 252 c1339
9. Mr. SMITHERS

asked the Minister of Labour whether her attention has been called to the annual report of the Newcastle Public Assistance Committee; and whether she will bring this report to the notice of the Royal Commission on Un-employment?

Miss BONDFIELD

I have not seen this report. If it concerns the Royal Commission on Unemployment Insurance, I presume the public assistance committee will send it to them.

Mr. SMITHERS

In view of the fact that the report contained evidence of some abuses—it may be legal abuses—will the right hon. Lady see that this and similar reports are brought to the notice of the Royal Commission?

Miss BONDFIELD

I do not quite understand how that can be put in evidence.

Mr. LAWTHER

Is it not a fact that these people have already given evidence before the Royal Commission?

Miss BONDFIELD

I believe that is so.
