HC Deb 14 May 1931 vol 252 cc1341-2
16. Sir ARTHUR STEEL-MAITLAND

asked the Minister of Labour what is the latest official figure of unemployment in Germany and the approximate number of agricutlural and other persons included in that figure who in England would not be insured against unemployment?

Miss BONDFIELD

At 31st March, 1931, the revised number of persons recorded as unemployed by the German public Employment Exchanges was 4,743,931. Information is not available which would enable me to state the number of persons included in this figure who would not be insured against unemployment in this country; but the total comprises 362,272 persons who are normally employed in agriculture, horticulture, cattle-breeding, forestry, fishery and domestic service.
