HC Deb 14 May 1931 vol 252 cc1334-5
24. Mr. BROCKWAY

asked the Home Secretary on what grounds Mr. Rexach and Mr. Collar, both of Spanish nationality, were deported from this country?

Mr. CLYNES

I presume that the hon. Member refers to two Spanish officers about whom questions have previously been asked in this House. They arrived at Liverpool on the 2nd January last in the steamship "Hildebrand" from Lisbon, and were refused leave to land for the reasons already given.

Mr. BROCKWAY

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware of the very strong feeling in Spain resulting from the contrast between the treatment of these Republicans and that of the ex-Monarch of Spain?

Mr. CLYNES

There has been no cause for contrast. These officers did not arrive from Spain, and I have no knowledge of any ground or feeling of complaint on account of what has been done.

Mr. HANNON

Is there any way of putting a stop to the asking of these indecent questions?
