HC Deb 14 May 1931 vol 252 cc1361-2
62. Mr. BRACKEN

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when he intends to introduce his proposals to reduce the taxation now imposed upon company reserves?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Pethick-Lawrence)

I am not aware that my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer has ever given any undertaking to propose such a concession as is referred to in the question.

Mr. BRACKEN

Mr. SPEAKER

Really, the hon. Member must not make a speech.

Mr. BRACKEN

I was not attempting to make a speech. The Financial Secretary to the Treasury has made a definite statement of fact, and I am asking him whether he was aware that the President of the Board of Trade—[Interruption.]

Sir NICHOLAS GRATTAN-DOYLE

On a point of Order. Is it not a fact that my hon. Friend was prevented from getting in with his question by reason of the obstruction of hon. Members opposite?

Mr. SPEAKER

We must get on with Questions.

Later

Mr. BRACKEN

In view of the unsatisfactory nature of the answer given by the Financial Secretary to the Treasury to my questions, I beg to give notice that I propose to raise the matter on the Motion for Adjournment.
