HC Deb 11 May 1931 vol 252 c810
52. Mr. EDE

asked the Minister of Agriculture what is the total acreage of allotments in the county borough of South Shields, and the area of the land owned by the borough council for this purpose?

Dr. ADDISON

The total acreage of allotments in South Shields, as reported by the council at the end of last year, was 110½ acres, exclusive of any railway allotments, the figures of which are only available for the country as a whole. No land is owned by the council for allotment purposes, but an area of one and a-quarter acres belonging to the council was being used temporarily for allotments at the date mentioned.
