§ 41. Mr. RAMSBOTHAMasked the Minister of Health if he can now state what action he intends to take in consequence of the actuarial investigation into the superannuation of asylum officers?
§ Mr. GREENWOODI would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to a previous question put on 10th March by my hon. Friend the Member for Rother Valley (Mr. Grundy), of which I am sending him a copy. Pending the receipt and consideration of the Government Actuary's report, I am not in a position to make any statement on the subject.
§ Commander SOUTHBYIs it not a fact that a settlement is long overdue, and that common justice demands that the right hon. Gentleman should expedite a settlement?
§ Mr. GREENWOODAs I have explained in the House more than once, the inquiry involved a considerable amount of time. The matter is now in the hands of the Government Actuary, and there will be no unnecessary delay.
§ Mr. RAMSBOTHAMIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that it is now nearly two years since I first questioned him on this matter; I have repeatedly questioned him since, and can nothing be expected to be done in the course of the two years?
§ Mr. GREENWOODAs I have already informed the House, the report will be in the hands of Members in the next few weeks.
