HC Deb 04 May 1931 vol 252 c38
Mr. ISAACS

(by Private Notice) asked the Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been drawn to a statement appearing in certain newspapers that British war graves in Flanders are being secretly violated in order that bodies may be smuggled back to relatives in England for reburial?

The SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. T. Shaw)

Yes, Sir, my attention has been drawn to these statements, and the Imperial War Graves Commission are already taking steps to investigate the matter. It is hard to believe that the reports are true; if they are untrue and invented, no reprobation could be too strong for rumours so ghoulish and cruel.
