HC Deb 04 May 1931 vol 252 cc22-3
34. Mr. OSWALD LEWIS

asked the Minister of Agriculture the total annual amount paid to the owners of ecclesiastical tithe; and of this amount what proportion represents income and what proportion represents sinking fund?

Dr. ADDISON

I am informed by Queen Anne's Bounty, in whom ecclesiastical tithe rentcharge is vested, that the total annual amount now in collection in respect of ecclesiastial tithe rentcharge is£2,306,994, of which£2,212,186 represents gross income and£94,808 sinking fund.

35. Mr. LEWIS

asked the Minister of Agriculture the total annual amount paid to the owners of lay tithe?

Dr. ADDISON

It is estimated that the amount of lay tithe rentcharge still in existence is approximately£1,091,000 (par value), but I have no means of ascertaining how much of this sum is actually in collection at the present time.
