HC Deb 04 May 1931 vol 252 c28
50. Mr. R. S. YOUNG

asked the Postmaster-General if he is aware that the Crouch Hill town sub-post office has recently been transferred from premises against which no complaint, official or unofficial, has been raised to premises which hold an off-licence to sell liquor; that some time ago the sub-post office was removed from the present premises; what re the new circumstances that have caused him to revert to licensed premises; and if it is his policy to grant to liquor-licence premises permission to act as sub-post offices?

Mr. ATTLEE

This sub-poet office fell vacant recently, and after advertisement the appointment was conferred on the candidate who was considered the most suitable and who offered the best accommodation for the post office work. The new sub-postmaster holds an off-licence, but the portion of the premises in which liquor is sold is separate from that in which the post office business is conducted. The holding of an off-licence is not regarded as an insuperable barrier to appointment as sub-postmaster.
