HC Deb 04 May 1931 vol 252 c35
76. Mr. THORNE

asked the Home Secretary whether damages awarded to a minor in respect of compensation are retained by the registrar of the county court until the minor reaches the age of 21, or whether it is the practice to deposit it in the Post Office Savings Bank during infancy in order that the money can bear interest?

Mr. SHORT

The matter is not one with which the Home Office is immediately concerned, but my right hon. Friend is advised that it is the practice of registrars of county courts to deposit in the Post Office Savings Bank, or to invest, money paid into court either as damages or as compensation.

Mr. THORNE

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that in one case a young man has lost a good deal of money merely because the registrar did not deposit the money in the Post Office Savings Bank?

Mr. SHORT

If the hon. Gentleman will give me particulars of the case, I will have it investigated.
