§ 11. Mr. HORE-BELISHAasked the First Lord of the Admiralty what reductions are to be made in the naval marriage and children's allowances; and whether he will reconsider this matter?
§ Mr. AMMONIn consequence of the reduction of the cost-of-living index figure, a reduced scale of marriage allowances will be operative in the three fighting Services during the financial year, 1931. The allowance for a wife will remain unchanged, but the revised scale will entail a reduction of from 1s. to 3s. weekly for children, according to the number of children in the family. I regret that I am unable to accede to the request contained in the latter part of the hon. Member's question.
§ Mr. HORE-BELISHAAre the Admiralty of opinion that the reduced allowances will be sufficient to keep the children of naval men in decency?
§ Mr. WISEWill the hon. Gentleman consult the chairman of the Kitchen Committee as to the real effect of the alleged reduction in the cost-of-living?
