HC Deb 12 March 1931 vol 249 cc1380-1
72. Mr. WHITE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the amount of revenue derived from the tax on turpentine and white spirit in 1929 and 1930?

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

The amount of revenue derived from white spirit cannot be given, as this substance is not separately classified in the official accounts, but is included under the heading of "Petroleum spirit, other than motor spirit." The net amount of revenue derived from the duty on turpentine and petroleum spirit, other than motor spirit, during each of the calendar years 1929 and 1930, was as follows:

Year ended 31st Dec.,
1929. 1930.
£ £
Turpentine 75,653 80,134
Petroleum spirit, other than motor spirit. 261,110 267,806
