HC Deb 12 March 1931 vol 249 c1385
81. Mr. LESLIE BOYCE

asked the First Commissioner of Works whether the Government will specify that Empire timber only is to be used in the building of the new Government offices at Whitehall?

The FIRST COMMISSIONER of WORKS (Mr. Lansbury)

The proposals for the erection of the building to which the hon. Member refers have not yet reached the stage at which it is necessary to consider the materials to be used.

Mr. BOYCE

Will the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind that there is ample variety and quantity of Empire timbers for this purpose, and that both the Dominions and Colonial Governments in similar circumstances give a preference to British materials?

Mr. LANSBURY

All that is taken into account.
