HC Deb 12 March 1931 vol 249 c1361
27. Earl WINTERTON

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department for what reason Miss Guthrum Bendiktsen, a Danish subject, has not been granted an extension of the period for which she may remain in this country, in view of the fact that she is here for the purpose of learning English at Home-field School, Worthing, and that she has not yet attained that object?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. Clynes)

Miss Bendiktsen was given leave to land for 12 months on the 19th January, 1930, for employment au pair at this school. When application was made to me for an extension of this period I consulted my right hon. Friend the Minister of Labour, but she was unable to recommend that an extension should be granted and I accordingly felt unable to accede to the application.
