HC Deb 12 March 1931 vol 249 cc1379-80
70. Lieut.-Colonel Sir FREDERICK HALL

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what amount this country is due to receive this year from the German reparations payment and from the Dominions in respect of war debts; and what will be the amount due to be paid in the same year to the United States under the war debts settlement with America?

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

The amount to be received during the financial year from the current German reparation annuities is £16,300,000, and from allied debts £17,700,000, making a total of £34,000,000 as against the £33,000,000 due to be paid during the same period to the United States Government in respect of the British war debt. The receipts from the Dominions during the same period amount to £7,632,300, but these receipts represent the reimbursement to the United Kingdom of the cost of the moneys borrowed in this country on behalf of the Dominions, and cannot be reckoned as a set-off against our American debt payment.
