HC Deb 11 March 1931 vol 249 cc1187-8
55. Sir W. BRASS

asked the President of the Board of Trade what legislative action, if any, the Government proposes to take to implement the findings of the committee set up to inquire into the conditions in the cotton industry?

Mr. W. R. SMITH

I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the reply given yesterday to the hon. Member for Stockport (Mr. Hammersley), of which I am sending him a copy.

Sir W. BRASS

As nothing has resulted from the setting up of this Committee, is it not therefore the case that this promise was made to catch the votes of Lancashire at the last election?

Mr. SMITH

No, that is not the case; and the delay is due to the fact that we are awaiting information from the Lancashire people themselves.
