HC Deb 09 March 1931 vol 249 c809
76. Mr. SHILLAKER

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been called to the danger of religious disturbances in Jerusalem at Easter; and what steps it is proposed to take to ensure that there shall be no rioting or breaches of the peace?

Dr. SHIELS

No, Sir, my Noble Friend's attention has not been specially drawn to this matter, but the local authorities will take whatever steps may be necessary.

Mr. SHILLAKER

Is the hon. Member aware that there have been serious disturbances between Christian churches in Jerusalem at Easter, and will he take steps to prevent disturbances this year?

Dr. SHIELS

Yes, I am aware that there is always a danger of these disturbances at Easter, but the Palestine Administration is well aware of it and may be relied upon to take the necessary precautions.
