HC Deb 29 June 1931 vol 254 c886
46. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Prime Minister whether the Economy Committee has inquired into the expenditure of any of the fighting services; if so, which ones have been examined; and whether interim reports are to be issued?

The PRIME MINISTER

I understand that the committee is now completing its examination of the fighting services. It is not proposed to issue interim reports, as it is expected that a comprehensive report will be ready shortly.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Is my right hon. Friend aware that the Geddes Committee did issue interim reports, which I believe were very valuable, and could this matter be reconsidered?

Sir N. STEWART SANDEMAN

Are interim reports ever followed in this country?

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Could this not be reconsidered in view of the great need of economy?

The PRIME MINISTER

I think the House would like to have a full report rather than any number of interim reports.

Sir K. WOOD

If legislative proposals are made such as were introduced last week, involving considerable expenditure of money, will the opinion of this committee be communicated to this House?

The PRIME MINISTER

It may be.
