§ 45. Sir K. WOODasked the Prime Minister whether he is now in a position to state the contributions that are to be made by members of the Cabinet by a voluntary reduction of their emoluments; and whether he can now give similar information with reference to the Law Officers of the Crown?
§ Mr. CLYNESThe answer to both parts of the question is in the negative.
§ Sir K. WOODWhat is the difficulty? The Chancellor of the Exchequer announced this three months ago. Is anybody backing out?
§ Mr. CLYNESOn that occasion the Chancellor of the Exchequer urged the necessity of general sacrifices being made, and said that the Cabinet, were prepared to make a substantial contribution. I appreciate the lofty motives which have prompted the right hon. Gentleman to press now for a reduction in his own future salary, but I can add nothing to my former reply.
§ Sir K. WOODWill interest be charged on the amount contemplated, so that we shall not lose over the matter?
