HC Deb 24 June 1931 vol 254 c438
45. Mr. McGOVERN

asked the Prime Minister if he is prepared to introduce legislation for the abolition of the House of Lords?

Mr. P. SNOWDEN

The Government certainly hope to bring the question of the House of Lords to an issue and when the time comes will ask for power to do so.

Mr. McGOVERN

In view of the recent performances of that House——[Interruption].

Mr. SPEAKER

That has nothing to do with the question on the Paper.

Mr. McGOVERN

And in view of the fact that, owing to recent decisions, four-fifths of this party are committed to this issue, will the right hon. Gentleman confer with the other fifth of the party to see whether they are in favour?

Mr. McSHANE

May I ask whether formal notice is to be sent to the House of Lords of the decision of the Government?
